Noma Sodipo writes for children and creates content for children’s television, radio and other media. Passionate about early childhood, she treasures the memories of successfully running her nursery for over twenty years. Her award-winning TV programme, Story-time With Auntie Noma, and her books, including her first, A Preschool Alphabet Book & A Treasury of African Names, which earned her a letter of acknowledgement from Queen Elizabeth II, and Nigeria Hotchpotch, her most recent storybook, are a testament to her love for all things African and good. She is the recipient of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Pioneer Labs Award and is happily married with three grown children.
Noma Sodipo’s latest book is vibrant and engaging, not only telling the nativity story in rhyme but also includes fun, interactive activities centred around an African nativity. Children will explore rich Christmas traditions from Africa, including how to say “Merry Christmas” in various African languages.
From Akin and Ada spotting ants and an anteater, to King Kwesi handing out kites – from Garuba tending Grandpa’s and Grandma’s garden, to Xolani playing his xylophone, this delightful book opens the world of the alphabet to children while introducing them to a vibrant collection of African names from A to Z.
Captivating illustrations, themes, a map of Africa, unique features of African names, origins and meanings, along with a pronunciation guide, all add up to make this book a treasured keepsake for children everywhere.
