Relevant still, are the concerns of decline in Readership amongst the young..
So, Go All In! is the National Literacy Trust ‘s strategy to rekindle a love for reading.
I attended a wedding last week and sat next to a young man standing in place of their estranged father, giving his sister away in marriage.
He after many years has began reading again and is enjoying it. He appeared surprised at his discovery, eventhough books had never really departed from his immediate reach.
He asked what I did and offered my usual, casual one-liner: ‘ I write compelling stories for kids’. Animatedly, he asked if they were digital.
In recent, it’s the second time I’ve been asked this. So I went on to talk about my digital story which was inspired by (and to be dependent on the publication of) its physical book format, for a fuller experience.
The gentlemen excited about my passion still insisted on a full transition to its digital form.
With some persuasion, a further 5 minutes in, he agreed: physical books need to remain relevant – just like the joy they presented him, after many years of being a non-reader: or so he claimed.
♻️ I’m questioning…
Does it take navigating a physical book to truly feel like a reader?
The answer in the context of childhood and development is Yes. To say No, will be reconstructing society in its entirety. For now, let’s keep the flow.
This year my colleagues and I at hashtag#CALFECIC will be supporting the National Literacy Trust in its year long hashtag#goallin campaign ensuring reading endures amongst the young, matching hobbies, interests, cultures and joys, just to get hashtag#childrenreadingagain
Why not join in?
